Seized wildlife items disposed

Imphal, February 24 2022:
Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Division Vahneichong Singson and Heingang police disposed off 500 kg of dried shark fins along with other wildlife items by burning at Mantripukhri Forest Office complex today.
Notably, sharks are protected under Schedule I and II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
Other than the dried shark fins, 27.50 kg of Paris Polyphylla (seeds) which has been identified as a vulnerable medicinal plant by the International Union for Conservation of Nature were also burnt.
Speaking to the media, DFO Vahneichong Singson said that the wildlife items were handed over to the Forest Department by the Custom Division, Imphal in September 2021 and the same were disposed off after taking due approval from Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden.
