CPI members oppose pact with Cong, resign

Dissatisfied over the pre-poll alliance formed with Congress party ahead of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, 48 key members and functionaries of CPI Wangjing-Tentha Local Council led by Haobam Roben, who was the CPI candidate in 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, have resigned from the party and their respective positions.
Resignation letters have been submitted to CPI Manipur State Council state secretary through local secretary on Saturday, Before carrying out the en masse resignation, a meeting was held at the residence of Haobam Roben at Wangjing Wangkhei on Saturday wherein Roben explained the reasons for the en masse resignation of CPI members and key functionaries of Wangjing-Tentha unit.
Most of councillors were against pre-poll alliance with Congress during a meeting held to discuss about the alliance but some CPI leaders decided to go ahead and form the alliance without considering suggestions of councillors, he said.
