Imphal, February 05 2022:
Special Court NIA Manipur today directed the Directorate of Health Services to constitute a State Medical Board to confirm the medical conditions of Narengbam Samarjit and to clarify whether his treatment would require facilities not available at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa or the JNIMS Security Ward.
The direction was given in connection with the bail application filed by Narengbam Samarjit (48), s/o (L) Jugindro of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai.
The Court order mentioned that accused Samarjit complained of hypertension, heart problem, diabetes mellitus type 2 and other ailments during the proceedings of the case he is involved in.
The Court had received the health report of the applicant from the Medical Officer, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa on January 1, 2022 .
The counsel of Samarjit submitted that the health condition of the accused would require intensive medical care outside the facilities of the Jail MI room and hence, prayed for his bail.
According to the Special PP NIA, Samarjit had applied for bail twice earlier too and both of them were dismissed by the Court on September 22, 2021 and December 31, 2021 .
The Court after hearing both parties and on perusal of the medical report observed that some of the ailments in the medical report are life threatening and as such, it would do justice to both the parties, if the medical condition of Samarjit is verified by experts of the State Medical Board.
Hence, the Court directed the Directorate of Health Services to constitute a State Medical Board to confirm the medical conditions of the applicant.
The Board has also been directed to clarify whether treatment of the applicant would require facilities outside the Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and JNIMS Security Ward on or before February 18 .
