Imphal, February 05 2022:
While accusing the police department of harassing her son and her family over a violent incident that occurred in the village, Basirjan Begum of Khergao Yumkhaibam Makha Leikai has urged the police department to stop hounding her family.
Interacting with the media, Basirjan Begum pointed out that she uploaded some newspaper clippings regarding a case related with NPP candidate Noor Hassan after which the NPP candidate hied a police complaint against 17 people including her son Md Majaqat.
Consequent to the police complaint, the local people staged strong protest and banned Noor Hassan from entering the locality.
Later, Noor Hassan assured of withdrawing the FIR and pleaded to allow him to enter the locality for his poll campaign and the matter subsided.
Recently, a polling camp of NPP was set up on a roadside and it led to some tussle in the village.
In the night of February 3, some workers of Noor Hassan came and assaulted her and her elder brother in-law, which led to a violent incident.
As state police were unable to control the situation, CRPF personnel were deployed there the whole night.
One police vehicle also got damaged in the incident and one of the vehicles of Noor Hassan's workers was impounded by the local people.
Several hockey sticks, clubs and stones were found inside the vehicle, she said.
Instead of resolving the issue in a fair manner, police are giving undue harassment to her family by frequently visiting her house and searching for her son Md Majaqat, she said while urging the police department to stop one sided treatment and harassing her family.
