People of Manipur have faith in NPP: Conrad Sangma
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kakching, February 05 2022: Meghalaya chief minister and National People's Party (NPP) national president Conrad K Sangma has said that people of Manipur have sidelined national parties and reposed faith in NPP and the party is hopeful of emerging as the single largest party in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and lead government formation.

Addressing a gathering at the flag hoisting ceremony of NPP candidate for Kakching AC Mayanglamabam Rameshwar at Kakching Makha Lou Saturday, Conrad Sangma said NPP will make all efforts in bringing development in Manipur and it is the first and foremost decision of the party to formulate policy for women, youth and farmers of the state.

While describing Rameshwar as an experienced person who works collectively for development of the North East region, Conrad Sangma expressed hope that Rameshwar would should immense responsibility in bringing development in Manipur apart from Kakching AC.

NPP Manipur Election Management Committee chairman and deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar, who also attended the ceremony, said it is a gain for NPP when BJP did not allot ticket to Rameshwar in Kakching AC and a government led by NPP would come after 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

He also said that BJP will repent when NPP candidate in Kakching AC emerges victorious in the upcoming election.

In his speech at the ceremony, Rameshwar opined he is able to join NPP after BJP denied ticket to him in recognition of his dedication to the public for 10 years.

He then thanked NPP national president Conrad Sangma and state leader Y Joykumar for bringing him to the party at a time when was in great distress due to BJP's mistreatment.

The ceremony was also attended by Arunachal Pradesh MLA Mutchu Mitthi, Wangkhei AC NPP candidate Y Erabot, Kshetrigao AC candidate Sheikh Noorul Hassan, NPP Kakching unit president Shougaijam Shyamjai and other leaders of the party.

On Friday, Conrad K Sangma claimed that his party, which has fielded 43 candidates, would be the single-largest party in the 60-member Manipur Assembly and would lead the government after February 27 and March 3 polls.

With four MLAs, the NPP has been an ally of the BJP-led government in Manipur since 2017.Addressing a series of gatherings in different parts of the state including Churachandpur, Moirang, Saikot, Thanlon, and Henglep, Sangma said that both the BJP and the Congress have failed to understand the complexities of the people of the region and the different needs of the people.

"We want to change the 'high command culture' .

We witnessed the internal feud in the national political parties.

The people of Manipur are looking at the NPP.

The party was born in Manipur," said the NPP chief.

Sangma said that the party understands the different issues and areas of concern of the people of the region.

The party truly belongs to the Northeast.

That's why people of different parts of the northeast region are accepting the Npp as a true alternative, said the Meghalaya chief minister.

The BJP, NPP and the Naga People's Front (NPF) had formed the coalition government after the 2017 assembly polls and though the alliance still exists, the saffron party, the NPP and the NPF this time announced to contest the elections separately and announced their nominees.
