Padmashri Th Chaoba feted

Former Union minister Thounaojam Chaoba Singh, who was recently conferred the Padma Shri in recognition of his endeavour towards upliftment of rural agriculturists, encouraging youth to pursue sports and spearheading 'One Village One Tank' programme in remote areas, was felicitated at his Utlou hometown on Thursday.
Speaking at the felicitation function, Th Chaoba recounted that though he was affected by polio, he managed to secure the 7th position in the north east level healthy physique competition held at DM College.
He joined politics in 1972 and had been a legislator for five times and union minister twice.
"I believe that if there is a village, there should be a playground and a public pond and it is on this theory that I developed many playgrounds and dug ponds in the villages," he said, while appealing to all to work hard with sincerity for the betterment of the society.
The felicitation function organised jointly by Senior Citizens Nambol, Intellectual Association, BJP Mahila Mor cha Nambol Mandal, Youth For Change and Nambol Development Organisation had retired assistant teacher Th Gouri Singh, Senior Citizens vice president Th Bobi Singh, Ishok GP ex-pradhan Deven Singh, BJP Nambol Mandal vice president N Ibohal Singh, Nambol Municipal Council caretaker councillor Kh Sund-ari Devi and K Purnima Devi as the presidium members.
