New AIR transmission centre likely at Jiribam

A high ranking team of officials of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Prasar Bharati, New Delhi visited Jiribam today to evaluate the feasibility of installing a new All India Radio Transmission Centre.
The team was led by N Sanatomba Singh, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and he was assisted by a technical team comprising of M Rajendran, Under Secretary, Ministry of I&B, Anjani Kumar, DDG (CG & PBB), PBS New Delhi and SM Tanwar Alam, DDG Guwahati (NER) AIR.
The team was supported by N Nandakumar, Director (E/HoO), AIR Imphal and KP Yadav, AD (E) AIR Silchar and Somarjit Singh, DD (E) DDK, Silchar.
The team visited different villages in Jiribam and inspected prospective sites for the transmission centre.
The transmission centre is expected to be manned by AIR Imphal and relay different programmes/news originated from AIR Imphal and AIR New Delhi.
The team also visited the BSNL Office at Jiribam and interacted with the officials there.
They also interacted with the officials of District Administration Jiribam and villagers to obtain comments and suggestions regarding installation of the transmission centre.
The team said they will discuss possible enhancement of programme contents during a meeting to be held at AIR Imphal tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had decided to increase the network of AIR and DD and a budget of Rs 2,500 crore had already been allocated for the same.
