Befitting tribute paid to 'martyrs'

As done every year, the Martyrs' Day was observed on Thursday at the Cheiraoching memorial complex with large number of people from different communities turning up to pay floral tributes to the nine people who were killed by security forces on April 13, 1982.People came out in large numbers and offered floral tributes at Cheiraoching from 8 am till 4 pm.
Tight security vigil was put in place at the site where people coming to pay homage to the 'martyrs' were also frisked one by one and later allowed to pay floral tributes to the departed souls.
As part of the observance, volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society provided first aid to the needy.
Staff of Shija Hospital and TRIMS were also deployed at the foothills of Cheiraoching to provide first aid to the people as and when necessary.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the observance, Khundrakpam ongbi Medha, sister of Khundrakpam Chaoban, who was one of those killed in the Kodompokpi incident, informed that the observance is being held every year and this year too, the court issued an order to allow offering of tributes at Cheiraoching by following the SOP laid down by the government.
As such people from all sections of the society came to pay floral tributes to the 'martyrs'.
Floral tributes were also paid at Kodompokpi where the nine individuals were killed.
The tribute events were also held at Tekcham Maning Ching, Kakwa Beni Leirak and Kwakeithel Moirangpurel.
It may be recalled here that nine members of People's Liberation Army (PLA) died in a gun battle with security forces on April 13, 1982 .
The slain PLA members were Thoudam Kunjabihari of Thongju Nameirakpam Leikai, Kh Chaoban alias Rajendra of Kwakeithel, M Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leirak, N Rajen Meetei of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Th Loken of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, L Dilip of Keishampat, M Paka of Heirok, S Kameshore of Heibongpokpi and Rk Khoirumba of Moreh.
