Fitting tributes paid at Cheiraoching

Imphal, April 13 2023:
A large number of people including members of several civil society organisations paid floral tributes at the memorial sites of 'martyrs' at Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband on "Athoubasing gi Numit" today.
Amid tight security, people paid tributes to the memorial sites of 9 nine "martyred" in an encounter at Kodompokpi on April 13, 1982 .
The nine "martyrs" were members of the proscribed outfit RPF/PLA.
They include Khundrak-pam Chaoba alias Rajendra of Kwakeithel, Moirangthem Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leirak, Naorem Rajen of Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Thoudam Loken of Kakwa Nangmeirakpam Leikai, Thoudam Kunjabihari of Nangmeirakpam Leikai, Maibam Paka alias Chaothoi of Heirok, Sorokhaibam Kameshwar of Heibong-pokpi, RK Khoirumba alias Gyane of Moreh and L Dilip of Keishampat.

During the observance today, the martyrs were remembered and respect paid with a Thang-Ta salute.
Among the people who paid tributes was Khundrak-pam ongbi Medha, the wife of the brother of deceased Khundrakpam Chaoba of Kwakeithel.
She said, people of all religions and communities have been observing Athoubasing gi Numit every year to show their respect and remember the "martyrs".
Every year, petitions are filed in the High Court to pay tributes to the "martyrs".
The High Court had given permission to observe the remembrance day this year also with the instruction to follow Covid protocol, she said and requested people to join the observance in the future also.
The Red Cross Society also opened a medical camp at the site.
Similar observances were also organised at the Kodompokpi site, where the nine RPF/PLA cadres were killed and at Tekcham memorial site where seven cadres were killed by the security forces in 1981 .
