Imphal, April 13 2023:
Highlighting the sorry state of affairs prevailing in contemporary Kangleipak, the proscribed KCP has called upon all the people to muster all their strength and stand up once again with historical pride.
A statement issued by KCP Central Committee on the outfit's 43rd raising day (April 14) pointed out that the Chinese people who were once drowning in the sea of drugs have overcome the menace of drugs and have transformed themselves as one of the most developed Nations in the world.
According to a report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Golden Crescent (Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan) and the Golden Triangle (Myanmar, Laos and Thailand) are the two regions which produce the biggest quantities of opium and opium based drugs in the world.
Drug lords have been producing huge quantities of heroin, WY/Yaba tablets and other narcotic drugs in the Golden Triangle.
On account of its proximity to the Golden Triangle, Manipur and the WESEA region are being transit routes for smuggling drugs from the Golden Triangle to India and other regions of the world, it said.
At the same time, people know that Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine used in manufacturing Amphetamine Type Substances (ATS) go from India to Myanmar, the Central Committee said.
Manipur has been suffering the impacts of drugs since the 1970's.By 1990, there were 15,000 to 20,000 injecting drug users in the State.
The figure rose to around 34,500 in 2009, according to some NGOs, it said.
Apart from heroin and similar drugs, a large number of youth had fallen prey to tobacco products, alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs.
In tandem with the rise in drug abusers, crimes and acts of violence too escalated.
Asking if any of the drug addicts ever become a patriot or a community leader, the Central Committee said that even relatives and families of drug addicts do not have time to work for the cause of the Nation.
Now poppy is being extensively cultivated in Manipur and heroin is manufactured in the State, it said.
It then gave a list of some major drug seizures reported from 2013 till the current year including seizure of pseudoephedrine tablets worth Rs 30 crore from the then PIB (Defence Wing) PRO Col Ajay Choudhury and drugs worth Rs 28 crore from the Imphal residence of then Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou.
Now vast tracts of hill ranges are being transformed into deserts as trees and other vegetation have been cleared to make for space for poppy cultivation, it said.
An ecological crisis has replaced the economic crisis in the State, the outfit remarked.
Although the Chinese people were once doomed as a result of the Opium War, they have successfully freed themselves from the shackles of opium and other drugs.
As the Chinese people woke up and stood on their feet, the people of Kangleipak too need to wake up and stand on their feet before it is too late, it said.
"No one will come to save us.
We must determine our own fate", it added.
