Governor, CM, others greet on Cheiraoba

Governor Anusuiya Uikey, chief minister N Biren, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata Singh and United Committee Manipur have extended their warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Cheiraoba.
In her message, Governor Uikey said that for the Hindu Meitei, Cheiraoba symbolises the coming of New Year and is a festival celebrated by every household with great enthusiasm and gaiety.
The festival represents the change of guards, where the old give way to the new, and rekindles hope for a better life, the Governor maintained and wished the people peace, prosperity and progress.
According to CM N Biren, Cheiraoba is the celebration of the New Year with family feasts, offering to God, sharing of food with neighbours and giving of gifts by women folk to brothers, uncles, fathers, etc.
The climbing of hills and hillocks in the afternoon symbolises the overcoming of obstacles and hurdles in the coming year, N Biren said, adding that people also rejoice in the form of Thabal Chongba in the evening.
While maintaining that Manipur today is also faced with challenges to its unity, ecology and economy, N Biren said: "Let the 'Ching Kaba' of Cheiraoba this year also symbolise the successful overcoming of these obstacles through our unity, perseverance and clarity of thought and action".
On the other hand, in separate releases, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata Singh and United Committee Manipur secretary IPR Leisemba Lamaba also wished the people of the state prosperity and peaceful co-existence among its inhabitants.
