Imphal, March 09 2022:
Directorate of Agriculture has informed that distribution of urea fertilisers to farmers in the ensuing Kharif season will be done on the basis of Soil Health Card (SHC) issued to the farmers to check the excessive use of fertilisers and reduce soil acidity.
A statement issued Agriculture director N Gojendro informed that the decision to distribute urea fertilisers on the basis of SHC has been taken as a prophylactic measure as most farmers of the state are using urea fertilisers continuously with excessive doses in rice cultivation resulting in soil acidity making it unsuitable for crop production.
If the present application of urea doses continue for a long time the soil will deteriorate, it noted.
Furthermore, the director urged the nodal officer (SHC) to speed up the soil testing procedures for the un-represented villages/fields in consultation with the respective district agriculture officers at the earliest and also requested to circulate the district-wise numbers of SHC issued to all district agriculture officers till date.
