KRA trio nabbed with arms released

Jwalamukhi Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended three cadres of KRA along with arms from Saikul Bazar area on Saturday around midnight but all three have been released after locals stormed the AR COB in protest against the arrest.
The nabbed trio have been identified as Thangminlen Lupheng, son of Lalzathang Lupheng; Langthanglen Leivon, son of Laljahau Leivon and Lamminthang Lelien, son of Tongjahau Telien.
One 9mm pistol along with two magazines and 28 live rounds, and one 7.65mm pistol along with a magazine and six live rounds were seized from their possession.
Sources said that, the AR team intercepted a Scorpio during a frisking operation around 11.30 pm and detained the trio.
As local residents started to gather on receiving information, the trio was transported to Saikul police station.
In the meantime, the mob stormed the Company Operating Base of Assam Rifles and vandalised the main and rear gates.
Additional team of 22 Assam Rifles rushed there and tried to control the mob.
As the situation remained tense, in order to pacify the mob the three cadres were handed over to Kuki Inpi at Saikul police station in the presence of the office in-charge of Saikul police station.
The seized arms and ammunition have been handed over to Saikul PS.
As per report filed by the AR team at Saikul PS, the mob was led by one Hejang Misao, member of an NGO called Inside North-East.
