JDU candidate, youth injured in attacks

In sporadic incidents of election related violence and gun attacks in the past 24 hours, Janata Dai-United (JDU) candidate for Kshetrigao AC seat Wahengbam Rojit alias Bullet was shot at by unidentified gunmen while a youth suffered bullet injury in another attack.
Reports of firing at residential houses by unidentified gunmen and destruction of polling booths in the past 24 hours were also received from different parts of the state.
In the first gun attack that occurred late Saturday evening, Wahengbam Rojit was attacked by two Activa borne gunmen and he is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, North AOC.
A bullet that hit Rojit on his back and pierced through his chest but his condition is stated to be stable.
Informing media persons about the incident on Sunday, JD(U) Kshetrigao Mandal president Nongthombam Chandra said that Rojit and some of his family members went to meet Meira Paibi activists at different places of Kshetrigao AC on Saturday evening.
At about 11.30pm, Rojit met one Thoudam John at Naharup Makha Pat Leikai.
All of Rojit's team members including security personnel were with him at the time.
While Rojit was chatting with John, two unidentified men passed the area.
The two Activa borne men came again at the area and drove away hurriedly after firing a shot at Rojit.
People present at the area tried to chase the gunmen but opted to rush Rojit to hospital to save his life.
Chandra further said that life attempt on Rojit just ahead of the election was very undemocratic and violence will never succeed as truth will triumph.
He also said that Rojit has no criminal record and he does not have threat from anyone.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protest was held at Porompat Tha-wanthaba Leikai against the life attempt on Rojit.
Meanwhile, Kshetrigao sitting MLA and BJP candidate Nahakpam Indrajit has strongly condemned the life attempt on Rojit and urged authority concerned to book culprits involved in the firing incident at the earliest.
While praying for speedy recovery of Rojit, Indrajit clarified that the firing incident had nothing to do with BJP.
In another incident that occurred Saturday night, a 21 years old youth suffered injury as unidentified gunmen fired towards houses of BJP supporters at different places under Andro AC.
According to a report filed by our Thoubal correspondent, some unidentified gunmen fired towards four houses belonging to BJP supporters at about 2.30am on Sunday at Yairipok Changamdabi Makha Tera Chingjin.
The houses belong to Md Ajit Khan, Korimayum Yakup, Md Hashim, Md Muji.
Md Ajit Khan's son Md Rahij Khan (21) who was sleeping at the time suffered bullet injury and he is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
In another incident in the same constituency, houses belonging to Chingakham Tompok, Sarubam Bheigobando and Phanjoubam Robindro of Andro Sanapat were fired at but no casualty was reported.
Meanwhile, large number of people staged sit-in-protest at different places of Khangabok AC against firing at the residence of Khangabok GP Zilla Parishad member Kh Rajmohon Singh and threatening him in connection with election.
Our Thoubal correspondent further reported that some masked men intruded into Rajmohon's house and damaged his house after firing.
The gunmen also destroyed 35/10 Khangabok AC JDU polling booth at about lam on Sunday.
A public meeting was held on Sunday regarding the attack and took several resolutions including filing of FIR and booking of culprits involved within 24 hours.
On the other hand, some unidentified miscreants destroyed the residential gates of BJP workers namely Khundrakpam Romesh and Khun-drakpam Sarat of Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai.
In another election related incident that occurred Saturday, three unidentified masked men threatened some voters in Poiroutongba village under Keirao AC.
The masked men who came in a numberless vehicle also reportedly 'gifted' two bullets to some voters in the village and asked them not to give vote to Muslim candidate.
