Pre-poll violence continues unabated

Instances of pre-poll violence continue to be reported from different locations even as the Silence Period for the first phase of election is in force now.
At Khangbok, a group of masked persons opened several rounds of gun fire at the house of one Zilla Parishad Member Khundrakpam Rajmohon at Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai and vandalised a polling booth of JD-(U) at Khangabok Polling no 35/10 today at around 1 am.
Denouncing the act of violence, a public meeting was convened at Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai today where several resolutions were adopted.
During the meeting, it was resolved to urge the department concerned to nab the perpetrators within 24 hours and to launch an agitation if the demand is not heeded.
Speaking to the media , Rajmohon stated that he is a supporter of the JD (U) candidate in the Constituency but never spoke ill of other candidates.
Claiming that the armed miscreants vandalised the gate his of garage and fired at the windows of two of his rooms chanting "kill kill", he added that he was attacked thrice earlier and intimidated on phone too.
He then urged all candidates in the Constituency to control their workers and never resort to violence.
In another incident, it is reported that some unknown persons broke the doors of two BJP workers at Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai namely - Khundrakpam Romesh (47) and Khundrakpam Sarat (32) last night.
Kh Romesh said that a group who was seen assembled at the place of Khangabok Zilla Parishad Member started banging electric poles in the middle of the night needlessly and as he such threw a stone towards them.
Following this, the group came and broke his door, he claimed.
Similarly, unknown miscreants fired several rounds at the residences of seven BJP workers at Andro Constituency today at around 2.30 am.
It is reported that a 21 year old man from Tera Chingjin was injured in the firing.
He has been identified as Md Rahij Khan (21), s/o Md Ajit Khan.
It is reported that Md Rahij sustained nose injuries and is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
Speaking to media persons, Md Ajit Khan stated that he was intimidated by a group of people about 10 days back for supporting BJP candidate and ex Minister Th Shyamkumar.
