Imphal, September 12 2022:
Demanding restoration of the previous parking space and sequence system for all bus service providers plying along Mayai Lambi by September 20; All Mayai Lambi Transporters' Association has cautioned of halting passenger services along the route from September 21 if the demands are not fulfilled.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Association president Th Premchandra Meetei recounted that three months ago, the parking space for bus service providers under Mayang Imphal Road Motor Transport Co-operative operating along the Mayai Lambi-Wabagai route was shifted from Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi Mamang to Wahengbam Leikai crematorium, thereby forcing the auto and Tata Magic service providers into a corner.
Originally, the buses previously had their parking space at Keishampat but shifted to Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi Mamang during the time of then Transport minister Kh Ratankumar, who was the MLA of Mayang Imphal.
He continued that there are only 26 buses plying along Mayai Lambi including till Wabagai, while there are a total of 650 auto and Tata Magic vehicles.
In June, the bus parking was relocated to Wahengbam Leikai crematorium, which interrupted the sequence system of the buses that were parked based on distance and the services of autos/Tata Magic commenced shortly after.
The buses operated every 10 minutes after all the passengers have boarded.
However, the autos/Tata Magic service providers are not getting passengers, which is affecting their livelihoods.
Thus, Premchandra urged for shifting the bus parking to Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi Mamang and allowing some reprieve to auto/Tata Magic service providers.
If the authority concerned fails to address the issue by September 20, then the Association along with all Drivers'/Owners' Associations and All Mayai Lambi Joint Transport Committee will halt passenger services on the route from September 21, he cautioned.
