Kakching High School 1984 Matric Batch today conducted the "Langban Heisoi Katpa" ritual and presented offerings/ prayers to honour the deceased forefathers along the banks of Sekmai/Sengmai river in Keraching.
Speaking on the occasion, N Munal Meitei, president Kakching High School 1984 Matric Batch shared that with the goal of "tha ama, thabak ama" (one month, one work), the organisation had attempted to tackle various social issues as well as carrying out many initiatives every month in the interest of the community.
"As part of this goal, the organisation had offered prayers along with flowers & fruits and then proceeded to present offerings to honour the Sekmai river today", he said.
N Munal also touched upon the gradual disappearance of locally available species of fruits such as star fruit (heinajom), Burmese grape (motok hei), elephant apple (heigri), wild apple (heitup) and Otaheite gooseberry (gehori) among others.
He mentioned that imported fruits have taken the place of local fruits in the offerings for 'Langban Heisoi Katpa' ritual.
N Munal further urged all to plant more local fruit trees to conserve the environment.
