Imphal, September 12 2022:
Two rival factions of a particular student group were caught in a tense stand-off at Pishum Chingamacha today forcing local people and police to intervene and pacify the factions.
At around, 5.30 pm, one faction was holding a press meet at the foot of Pishum Chingamacha which also houses a memorial of all those people killed in the Hunger Marchers' Rally of August 27, 1965 .
Soon after the press meet began, the other faction came and said that no press meet could be held at Pishum Chingamacha for there was a dispute or disagreement within the organisation.
This sparked a tense stand-off between the two sides and they were even poised to exchange blows.
But the local people came out in the nick of time and asked both the factions to leave the area.
As the stand-off persisted despite intervention by local people, a police team arrived at the scene and drove away all of them.
A similar situation was also seen at the head office of the particular student organisation located inside DMU campus.
Even though restrictions have been imposed by the district administration around the head office since September 10, one group came and demanded to enter the office.
But the police deployed there not only prevented the group from entering the office which has been locked but also drove away the group.
