Imphal, September 12 2022:
RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand and Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah along with senior officials of the state government inspected the 103 km long Shirui to Kachouphung PMGSY road on Monday.
The team led by the minister Khemchand is on a two-day inspection visit.
On the first day, the minister advised the engineers and contractors concerned to maintain quality and ensure geo-tagging of their works while making it clear that the department will not clear any bill without geo-tagging.
The minister said that as the road is the longest PMGSY project in the state, he felt an urge to visit the work site when Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah proposed for spot inspection.
During their visit, he found some parts of the road in good quality and some in poor.
Water streams from the hills are also a major factor for rapid deterioration of road in the hill areas and it is important to make proper planning to mitigate the issue, Khemchand stressed.
As there were no field supervisors (Mohori) at the work site in some portions of the project the labourers too undermined the need to maintain work quality, he said and advised the field supervisors to remain at the wok site and supervise the works being taken up.
The minister also made the labourers to reconstruct two culverts due to poor quality in execution of the work and asked the engineers to ensure regular and frequent check of the works.
He also asked contractors to execute their works while keeping in mind the future of the state.
Khemchand then expressed gratitude for the warm welcome accorded to him by residents of different villages along the way.
On the other-hand, MLA Ram Muivah thanked the minister for his inspection visit and shared his observation that the road project which will connect Ukhrul with Myanmar will be a big booster for trade route connectivity and open door for tourism in Ukhrul.
He said that there are several potential tourist spots like forest and waterfalls in the areas between Khayang and Kachouphung.
Khayang waterfall, which is around 380 feet high, is a beautiful spot for adventure seekers.
Khayangphung is the highest peak in Ukhrul district and one can see snowfall on this peak.
Unfortunate ly, there is no proper way to reach the peak, he said while underscoring the need for improving road infra structure to expose such potential tourist spots, which can attract huge number of visitors.
