STDCM sets deadline; warns of bandh, blockade

Setting mid October as the deadline for taking up necessary steps for inclusion of Meetei-Meitei in the ST list.
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has warned of launching bandh and blockade if the government remains silent over the matter.
In continuation of its series of protest to mount pressure on the government, STDCM in association with Eastern Educational Club and Khurai Ahongei Thangjam Leikai Nupi Kanglup organised a sit-in protest at Khurai Ahongei on Monday.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, STDCM Youth Wing convenor Nameirakpam Edison said that they can no longer remain calm when the government is maintaining stoic silence over the demand for inclusion of Meetei-Meitei community in the ST list.
As such, the Committee is setting the deadline of mid-October for the government to take up necessary steps towards to fulfilling the demand, he said while reiterating that they will be forced to call bandh or blockade after the deadline.
Meira Paibi leaders and club members also expressed their support to the demand of STDCM while stating that inclusion in the ST list will provide constitutional safeguard to Meetei -Meitei community.
