Cycle rally sets tone for Singju Festival, pact signed

Ahead of the 12-day Singju Festival 2022 to be held from December 28, a "Solo Cycle Rally" carrying the message of "Save Singju & Manipuri Pony" was flagged off from Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Thoubal district by Wangjing-Tentha MLA P Brojen on Wednesday.
The solo cycle rally is being carried out by Manikanta Mutum.
Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, MLA Brojen regretted Singju, which is made from a variety of vegetables and is highly nutritious is losing its popularity.
While commending those who realised historical significance of Singju and are organising festival to uphold the tradition, the MLA assured all possible help from his side in this regard.
According to Singju festival committee convenor Rakesh Naorem, as a part of the festival various activities and events including tree plantation at Heingang hill, distribution of educational materials to children's homes in Heingang AC and presentation of gifts to 20 select individuals who are earning livelihood through sale of Singju, etc., will be carried out.
The function was also attended by committee advisory board member Keke Wahengbam, finance secretary Waikhom Bihari, media co-ordinator Ojit Sorokhaibam, social activist Dr Eteen Maibam and executive member Chongtham Jibanlata, among others.
Meanwhile, UNACCO Group; Classic Group of Hotel; Ratankumar Memorial (RM) School, Kwakeithel; Eteen Computerised Eye Testing & Eye Care Centre, Thoubal; and Longjam Brothers & Sisters Charitable Trust, Top Upokpi Makha Leikai, Wangoi signed MoUs with the Festival Committee of Singju Festival 2022 for becoming partners of the Festival slated to be held at Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang.
In a release, Singju Yokhatpa Lup (SYOL) Festival Committee 2022 convener Rakesh Naorem stated that the partnership MoUs were signed when the Committee members met with UNACCO Group founder Ningombam Irabanta, Classic Group of Hotel managing director Dr Thangjam Dhabali Singh, RM School founder Dr Kh Hi-lari, Eteen Computerised Eye Testing & Eye Care Centre proprietor Maibam Eteen Meetei and Longjam Brothers & Sisters Charitable Trust founder Longjam Yaiphaba Angom.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Advisory Board member Keke Wahengbam, vice chairman S Premlata, convener Rakesh Naorem, co-convener Sobita Maibam, programme co-ordinators SK Apanba & Surendra Ningomba, finance secretary Waikhom Bihari, assistant finance secretary Kunjeshwor Mangsatabam and executive member Boinao Maibam, it added.
