Imphal, December 21 2022:
The Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department put up the popular and organic kiwi fruits of Oinam Village and oranges of Tamenglong for sale at a discounted price at the outlet of Manipur Organic Mission Agency at Sanjenthong, today.
Today, both the kiwi fruits and oranges were sold at Rs 100/Kg at the outlet.
Speaking to the media, Joint Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, K Devdutta Sharma said that the MOMA has been promoting the local farmers by providing them facilities to plant oranges, lemons, kiwi fruits and GI tag accorded crops.
He said that the department didn't seek any profit from selling the two organic fruit varieties as the prices were fixed at the rate brought from the farmers with transportation charge included.

Saying that MOMA has also been extending assistance to the farmers in marketing their produce, he added that the primary objective of the agency is the wellbeing of the farmers.
MOMA will continue to extend all possible help to the farmers and encourage them to produce more crops, vegetables and fruits, he said.
The farmers will hesitate to go to fields if there are no adequate markets for them to sell their produce, he reasoned and maintained that today's sale also aimed at promoting the farmers of the State and popularising their organic produce.
As per him, the kiwifruits put up for sale as a part of the Christmas Festival were grown by over 500 farmers from Purul, Oinam, Tungjoi, Mao etc.
K Devdutta appealed to all concerned to promote organic farming.
