"Govt aspires to achieve significant increase in pass percentage, reduce dropouts"

Education Minister Th Basantakumar has asserted that the aspiration of the Government isn't to merely produce toppers but to achieve significant increase in the pass percentage and establish an educated society.
The Education, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister was speaking at the Freshers' Meet 2022-23 of Nambol Higher Secondary School organised by the students' union of the school.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences for the lives claimed by the tragic bus accident which occurred this morning at Longshai Tubum village as well as those injured and affected by this tragedy.
He shared that school/college excursions and study tours have been banned till January 10, 2023 in view of the foggy weather condition and the potential dangers it may pose.

The Education Minister then went on to say that the Government's aim is to increase the pass percentage of students and called for concerted efforts to reduce the rate of dropouts.
With a goal to integrate the different communities in Manipur, a State which is comparable to a 'mini India', a local language learning program has been launched at Johnstone Higher Secondary School, he said.
Stating that there is no imposition to learn Hindi, he opined that learning it will nevertheless be beneficial.
He also advised against creation of unfounded misunderstandings & dissemination of false information in this regard.
Maintaining that the greatest drawback of Government schools in the State is the lack of infrastructure, he shared that an amount of Rs 80 crore to be sanctioned by North East Council is currently being processed to meet this inadequacy.
He assured that as soon as the sum is approved, improving the infrastructure of schools will be the first priority.
The Education Minister further informed that efforts will be made to include Nambol Higher Secondary School in the next phase of School Phagathansi Mission.
In reference to a memorandum submitted by the teachers and students' union of Nambol Higher Secondary School, L Nandakumar, Director, Education (S) stated that the annual grant for maintenance of the school will be sanctioned very soon.
The Freshers' Meet 2022-23 was also attended by N Chingkhei, ZEO Zone IV, Bishnupur; Ch Basanta, former chairperson, Nambol Municipal Council; T Khaba Khuman, president, DPUVO; Kh Shyam Kumar, vice principal (in-charge cum DDO) Nambol Higher Secondary School as the presidium members.
