MAHUD and RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has announced that he will start examining the developmental projects being taken up in remote and hill areas at least twice a week to ensure proper execution of works.
The Minister made the remark while attending the inauguration ceremony of a new office building of Social Welfare's Club (SWC) at Heirangoithong, today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Khemchand continued that some contractors working on vested interest while executing development projects from public money is uncalled for and not acceptable.
The Minister said that he will look into the matter.
Saying that he already has started taking out inspection tours in remote areas and hill districts every weekend, he continued that the Government will penalise all the contractors who don't execute the works as per the specifications of the packages.
On the role of local clubs, Khemchand said that the culture of sports seems to be declining in almost all localities in Imphal East and Imphal West.
Saying that many local clubs in Imphal have started buying players from other States and beyond due to the drop in production of local players, Khemchand continued that Heirangoithong which was known for producing many gymnasts doesn't have much players of the sport which tests balance, strength, and agility of an athlete.
Appealing to all local clubs to play a central role in improving the sport activities of the State, the Minister maintained that he will extend all possible assistance for the cause.
SWC president Thounaojam Jayenta also attended the programme among others.
