Pongringjang United Organisation celebrates golden jubilee

The golden jubilee celebration of Pongringjang United Organisation (PUO) was held today at Langol Tarung.
Dignitaries present at the golden jubilee celebration of PUO include Dinganglung Gangmei, Chairman, Hill Areas Committee, Manipur Legislative Assembly; Thangjam Arunkumar, MLA, Wangkhei Assembly Constituency; Langangdim Panmei, jubilee chairman; Kamei Alin Rongmei, former Assistant Solicitor, Guwahati High Court Nagaland Bench and Gainilung Panmei, Deputy Legislative Counsel, Ministry of Law & Justice as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, G Gaidon Rongmei, former Corporator, IMC and jubilee convenor shared that PUO was formed in 1972 by residents of Charoi Pangdongba (Pongringlong) under Noney district of today (erstwhile Tamenglong district) who settled in various regions of Manipur valley, Nagaland and Assam.

He informed that Pongringlong residents began settling in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kohima, Dimapur and Jalukie in the 1960s.During this time, there was an outbreak of smallpox in Charoi Pangdongba which led the villagers to move to other places for their convenience.
Today's function was organised to celebrate 50 years since the inception of PUO, he said.
Stating that now numerous members of PUO are employed as doctors, engineers, academicians, IAS officers and ILS (Indian Legislative Service), G Gaidon Rongmei maintained that the goal of PUO is to safeguard and promote the culture and tradition of the Kuki community.
Aside from this, PUO also aspires to produce more outstanding individuals by keeping a keen eye on education.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Th Arunkumar called it a great achievement that many members of PUO have emerged as prominent and distinguished individuals.
If every community has an organisation like PUO, then the State will undoubtedly be at the forefront of development and succeed in safeguarding and promoting their culture and tradition, the MLA maintained.
