Study tour, excursion banned till Jan 10: Minister

Expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident which occurred along Bishnupur-Khoupum road on Wednesday near Longsai village where a bus carrying students of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School, Yairipok met with an accident scores of occupants, majority of whom were students, and left many injured, education minister Th Basantakumar has announced ban on all types of study tour and excursion of schools and colleges till January 10, 2023.The minister announced this during the fresher's meet celebration of Nambol Higher Secondary School on Wednesday.
He further informed that the decision to prohibit study tour and excursion was taken considering the foggy weather condition being experienced in the state during the winter season.
Within few hours of the accident on Wednesday, an order issued by director of education (s) L Nandakumar Singh informed that the department is in receipt of reports of school children going for a school excursion and meeting with accidents in the morning fog/mist of this winter season.
While banning the conduct of school excursions, the order directed all principals, headmasters and headmistresses of all government, aided and private unaided schools in the state to desist from organising school excursions temporarily and warned that any untoward incidents occurring due to failing of abiding the order will be their sole responsibility.
Meanwhile, in his address at the fresher's meet celebration, minister Basanta stated that the objective of the government is not only to produce toppers but also to increase the pass percentage of students in the board and council examinations and further reduce number of drop outs in the state.
While assuring that Nambol Higher Secondary School will be covered under the "School Fagathansi" mission and its infrastructure will be developed at the earliest, minister Basanta informed that the state government is all set to acquire an amount of Rs 80 crore from North Eastern Council to develop the infrastructure of government schools.
The minister also confided that in addition to releasing the school's annual grant for maintenance, the shortage of staff in all streams will be filled up very soon.
The function was also attended by education (s) director L Nandakumar, Bishnupur ZEO zone-4 N Chingkhei, Nambol Municipal Council former chairperson Ch Basanta, DPUVO president T Khaba Khuman and Nambol Higher Secondary vice principal Kh Shyam Sharma as guests of honour.
