Moirang College observes AKAM

A one-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), 8 years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan' was organised by Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office, Imphal at Moirang College, Bishnupur district on Thursday.
According to CBC Imphal programme in-charge Thokchom Anthony, Moirang College assistant professor of History department K Kiranjit Singh recalled the contribution of M Ahanbi Singh of Moirang, who along with B Balhav Sharma, Salam Yaima of Imphal, M Chaoba of Keirao went to Mandalay (Burma) to join Indian National Army movement and were later arrested by the British.
Names like Kiyam Gopal Singh, K Kanglen and M Mani Singh, who were instrumental in hoisting of the INA Flag at Moirang with Colonel Shaukat Malik and H Nilamani, L Sanaba are few names unknown and forgotten but found on record as the Freedom Fighters of Manipur, he said.
Second resource person, Prakash Singh of History Department of the college explained elaborately the Panch Pran goal for the next 25 years so as to make India top three economic power by 2047.During the event, students were encouraged to download and play mobile game Azadi Quest where unsung heroes of India's freedom struggle could be found.
An on-the-spot quiz contest was organised and prizes distributed to the winners.
All participants were also provided certificates.
Private Registered Troupe (PRT) of CBC, Imphal namely M/S Thoibi Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Okshongbung presented a Thang-ta show and other cultural activities during the programme, said a release issued by the programme in-charge.
