'ICOP aims at sensitizing locals of remote areas about Governmental welfare schemes'

An Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme was held today at Leilon Vaiphei in Kangpokpi district.
The programme was organised by the Central Bureau of Communications (CBC), Field Office, Senapati district under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Government.
The inaugural function was graced by Vaiphei Peoples' Council (VPC) Chairman, Leilon Block, Chungmang Vaiphei; Churachand Higher Secondary School Lecturer, Dr S Kamminlun Vaiphei; Chief of Leilon Vaiphei, Khupneilun Vaiphei; CBC Senapati, Field Publicity Officer, Dr Waribam Urmila and Field Publicity Assistant, Sankhil George as the presidium members.

The programme was organised with an aim to raise awareness among the masses on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, 8 Years Seva Sushasan and Garib Kalyan Yojana and Vision 2047 .
Addressing the gathering, Chungmang Vaiphei expressed content that the incumbent State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been able to curb poppy plantation in the State to a great extent.
Elaborating on the adverse impacts of poppy plantation, he maintained that the chemicals and fertilizers used in poppy plantations blend with the water bodies thereby posing great harm to all living beings especially humans.
Owing to the productive alternative means of livelihood provided by the State Government, poppy plantations in the State have reduced considerably, he added.
In view of the above developments, he appealed to all to support such noble initiatives of the Government for the welfare of the State.
With regards to the objective of organising the programme, Dr Waribam Urmila stated that it is organised to sensitize the locals in remote areas about the various welfare schemes taken up by the Central and State Government.
During the programme, a team of Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association showcased a Thang-Ta performance.
In connection with the programme, a procession was carried out at the surrounding areas of Leilon Vaiphei.
