Mom-son held with over 1 Kg of brown sugar

Imphal, October 20 2022:
A woman and her son have been arrested along with 1.016 Kg of brown sugar whose value is estimated to be around Rs 35 crore in the international market.
A team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi and women police personnel of Imphal East yesterday evening arrested the woman and the son along with two packets containing 1016 grams of brown sugar from near Hatta Centre Masjid Road, New Lambulane 2nd street (near Tribal market) .
Acting on specific information about the presence of drug dealers in and around the Hatta Centre Masjid Road, New Lambulane 2nd street, a team of special command unit, Khabeisoi and women police personnel of Imphal East district rushed to the spot and conducted frisking and checking of suspected persons.
Two suspected persons who were coming on foot were detained for verification and they were identified as Deikhoting Haokip (52) w/o Hb Holsei Haokip and Khailenkhup Haokip (31) s/o Hb Holsei Haokip of Longja village, Chakpikarong.
While checking a leather bag (black in colour) carried by Deikhoting Haokip, two polythene pouches marked 'A' and 'B' containing brown sugar were found inside the bag.
The pouch marked 'A' weighed 507 grams and the other one marked 'B' weighed 509 grams.
One mobile phone along with Airtel Sim card and Rs 2550 in cash were also seized from the possession of Deikhoting Haokip.

Apart from seizing the drug, the mother and the son were arrested by observing necessary formalities and they were handed over to Porompat police station together with the brown sugar.
