STDCM submits memorandum to Susindro

As part of its ongoing demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list as a form of constitutional safeguard for the community; Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) stormed the residence of CAF&PD minister Leishangthem Susindro and submitted a memorandum, iterating the demand on Thursday.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, STDCM joint secretary Laishram Brajakishore explained that in accordance with the resolutions adopted during a public meeting held at Ima Kunthokhanbi Shanglen, DMU campus on October 13, the memorandum was submitted to minister Susindro at his residence.
The Committee's demand is for the state government to forward the requisite recommendation to the central government for fulfilling the prolonged demand of the people.
In response, minister L Susindro observed that it was the first for STDCM to submit the memorandum to him physically and as such, assured of taking up the matter to the CM.
He further assured of taking up all necessary steps to protect the indigenous people of the state.
Representatives of 10 Union Khurai, WAMA, WASDEV, KKL, UKAL and other bodies were also present at the protest.
On October 18, STDCM kick-started the latest phase of agitation by storming the private residence of PR & RD minister Yumnam Khemchand.
On the other hand, Iroisemba Youth Development and Iroisemba Apunba Meira Paibi jointly staged a sit-in protest demanded inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, at Iroisemba Jodhachandra Market Shed on Thursday.
The protestors also shouted slogans like 'Include Meetei/Meitei in ST List', and 'Forward recommendation to centre for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST List' .
During the protest, STDCM convenor Laishram Romesh Meetei spoke on how the movement came into being and its future prospects.
Later, several resolutions were adopted such as for Iroisemba Youth Development and Iroisemba Apunba Meira Paibi to extend full support to all activities of STDCM and to continue further protests.
