Jiribam, October 20 2022:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Jiribam District Council has enquired whether teaching students on mat due to shortage of desks and benches in school is modern education system.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM Jiribam District Council office located at Babupara, Jiribam on Thursday, district council president Laishram Bilaksh informed that a team of the council inspected Jirighat High School located at Sorok Atingbi, Jiribam on Thursday and found no desk and bench in the school.
Subsequently, the students are learning by sitting on mat, he said.
Though the government has taken up initiatives for the development of education sector and schools, the authorities concerned have been neglecting the school and no development initiative has been taken up despite repeated appeals for filling up the inadequacies including infrastructure of the school.
School headmaster has already informed the inadequacies of the school to Jiribam ZEO, yet the authorities concerned failed to translate the appeal into action, he lamented.
