Media workshop on HIV/AIDS legislation held

The Khelen Thokchom Foundation Trust Manipur in collaboration with Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) organised a one-day media workshop on newly adopted HIV & AIDS (prevention and control) Act, 2017 in Churachandpur district on Wednesday.
District AIDS Control Officer (Ccpur) Dr Romeo Sanate, assistant director (IEC and Main Streaming MACS) Th Lanngamba, Omajit Leishangthem of MACS, MHJU general secretary Nengkhanlun and MHJU coordinator Ksh Deepak attended as presidium members of the inaugural session of the workshop participated by all media persons based in Churachandpur district.
In his welcome speech, Dr Romeo expressed gratitude to the Khelen Thokchom Foundation Trust for conducting the workshop and said that HIV transmission route has changed from drug injection in the past to copulation of male and female now.
He also said that various blocks of Churachandpur have largest number of HIV affected people followed by Tuibuang block.
Saikot block stands at third, Singhat block at 4th, Thanlon 5th, Samulamlan 6th, Henglep 7th and Sangaikot at 8th position, he added.
According to Dr Romeo, at least 105 people were newly infected by HIV during four months from April to July this year in the state mostly in Churachandpur district and the infection rate will be alarming if this trend continues.
He also stressed the need for taking up necessary measures to contain the HIV infection rate.
