Imphal, September 29 2021:
Six student bodies of the state, namely All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF|, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Apunba Ireibakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) on Wednesday staged protest demanding immediate arrest of the person(s) responsible for the abduction and killing of Zeiiangrong Saudi former president Athuan Abonmai.
During the protest which was staged in front of AIMS' Kwakeithel office, the protesters held placards and shouted slogans condemning the incident and demanding arrest of the culprit(s).
Speaking on the sidelines, AMSU vice president L Athouba termed as unfortunate how Athuan was easily abducted in front of the security forces and later found murdered.
He then demanded justice in the case and stringent punishment of the person(s) involved, while cautioning of launching more intense agitations in case the government fails to do so.
Commenting on the swift action taken by the government with regard to private posts on social media like Facebook and Twitter, and slapping NSA; the vice president wondered why the government is taking much time in taking action against the murderer(s) of Athuan.
"Athuan's death is a huge loss for the state.
It is uncertain whether the ongoing operation in Tamenglong to apprehend the person(s) responsible will be effective or not.
The incident has also shown the government's inability to maintain law arid order in the hill areas", he said, while urging the government to show otherwise.
