Women trained to become business correspondents

As part of the India's 75th Independence Day celebration, Manipur Sta.te Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) of Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj on Wednesday organised a function 'Dedicating 50,000 SHG women members as Business Correspondent'.
The function was held under the initiative of the ministry of Rural Development at Hotel Classic Royale, Imphal.
Speaking at the function, MSRLM state mission director Yumnam Robita urged the participants to give cooperation and support to achieve the goal of the mission.
She said that under the scheme women are empowered through SHGs and the function will highlight the active role of the Bank Sakhis.
She appreciated women entrepreneurs and encouraged them to work harder to excel in their business and called upon the bank partners to assist those SHGs needing help while assuring that the mission will continue its support in the future.
Speaking on the topic 'Business Correspondents as Entrepreneurship', Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSE-Tl) Churachandpur director Lianminthang explained that in a digitalized world and the ongoing financial inclusion effort of the government, Business Correspondents (BCs) have an important role to play as a link to the banks and the rural masses.
He said in this process they can also greatly benefit if they imbibe characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.
He informed that RSETI also trains BCs under the 'One GP One BC Sakhi' programme with certification by Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) with similar training provided to the rural poor and unemployed youth in various trades with the objective of creating self-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Altogether 32 SHGs were provided certificates and electronic devices by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance during the event which was also attended by SMM-FI Helun Khongsai, representatives of APB (Airtel Payment Bank), IDFC first bank, CSC-SPV and SHG members.
