Release drought relief fund: PANDAM

People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has demanded authorities concerned to release the relief assistance of Rs 28.65 crore sanctioned by central government under National Disaster Relief Fund to aid the families affected by severe drought that took place in Manipur in 2019.In a release, PANDM said that relief fund meant for the families affected by the drought is yet to be provided to the respective district authorities.
Upon investigation by the organisation, it has been found that the relief fund has been halted at finance department, PANDAM said, while adding that non-release of the fund has prevented the affected families to get some relief.
Citing slight improvement in the Covid-19 pandemic situation, PANDM urged the government to release the relief fund at the earliest.
The release further pointed out that amidst non-release of the drought relief assistance, there are several families affected by cyclone that hit the state in the same year.
Several schools, colleges and houses were also affected by it.
Subsequently, respective DCs conducted an inquiry about it and submitted reports regarding the matter.
However, the reports are yet to see the light of the day afteF they were placed to the state level committee, it stated, while urging authorities to release relief assistance provided by National Disaster Relief Fund for the affected families.
