Candidates of Konthoujam AC get candid on polls

In connection with the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, the five candidates in fray from Konthoujam Assembly Constituency have shared their reason of contesting the election and the vision for the constituency and the state in an interview with The People's Chronicle on Tuesday.
INC candidate Laishram Nando Singh conveyed that he decided to contest the polls after witnessing the apathetic attitude of the successive elected representatives towards the people of Konthoujam.
His first task as an elected representative would be to focus on development of education and agriculture sectors, along with generating job opportunities for the youth.
He then said that Manipur requires a competent leader who does not a hold a portfolio but is able to resolve all prevailing issues.
NCP candidate Khoirom Binarani stated that she wants to ensure effective delivery of entitled benefits to the deserving BPL families of Konthoujam.
Her first assignment would be to improve the road and transport conditions and delivery of different social benefit schemes to the people.
For the state, she wants to fulfill the ST demand of Meetei/Meitei community so as to bring about equal development without any discrimination.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said that he wants to take up development programmes for a better future of the state.
His first task after being elected would be to see to the completion of all pending development works in the constituency, in addition to taking up welfare programmes for farmers.
His vision for the state is to improve the education sector and take up welfare measures for youth in view of the state's connectivity with the country via the railways.
NPP candidate Konthoujam Sarat Singh stated that he wants to take up works he could not to do as an opposition MLA.
Apart from focusing on improving connectivity and irrigation system of the state, he wants to save Manipur, resolve the border pillar issue, fulfill the ST demand of Meetei/Meitei and safeguard the status of indigenous people.
On the other hand, JD (U) candidate Nongmaithem Herojit snared that he wants to serve the people.
His first task after getting elected would be to improve the irrigation system and the livelihood of the people of Konthoujam.
He then said that he wants to encourage industries and businesses in the state for effective resource mobilization and reducing the unemployment rate, thereby helping Manipur to become a self-sustainable state.
