7th State Level Aquarium Exhibition / Flower Show concludes

The valedictory function of the 7th State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show was held today at DM College campus.
The 7th State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show which began on February 10 was jointly organised by the Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) and Aquarium and Floriculture entrepreneurs .
The valedictory function was graced by the Principal, DIET Imphal, L Gambhir Singh, former HOD Botany Department, Imphal College, L Somarjit Singh and Director of MASTEC, Dr L Dinachandra Singh as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajkumar Pritamjit Singh, Scientific Officer, MASTEC and in-charge of Science Aquarium said that the main objective of the Science Aquarium is to conserve the indigenous fish species thereby enabling the researchers to conduct research on these fishes.
He went on to inform that the rare indigenous fish species such as Pengba, Ngaton, Nganap, Ngakijou, Fifteen Mukanga etc are being reared in the aquarium for the breeding purpose and to conserve them.
He also spoke about the inconveniences faced by the aquarium to rare these indigenous fishes as compared to exotic fishes whose feeds are readily available.
The Scientific Officer stressed that if the exhibition is organised on a regular basis it will help in improving the economic status of entrepreneurs who are into this particular business and will subsequently contribute to the State's economy and will help in promoting the science aquarium.
Also prizes were distributed to the winners of the spot painting competition held on February 13 in connection with the exhibition.
