Imphal, February 16 2022:
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) has stated that elections have been transformed from the 'festival of democracy' into the 'festival of crime' and called for the public to recognise the deplorable state of politics in the State.
In a statement, CADA shared that in the last 40 or so years a great change has taken place in the landscape of electoral politics wherein politicians have resorted to money and muscle power as well as other unsavoury means to garner the support of the electors.
In this day and age, elections have become synonymous with inducements such as bribes, supply of contraband items for consumption etc, the statement added.
CADA stated that in many instances, supply and consumption of illicit substances have led to pre-poll violence and an increasing number of drug dependent youth.
As such, CADA has called for the people's support in curbing the consumption of contraband substances in connection with the election and also called for a resurgence of strong local clubs and meira paibis who can keep a close eye on this matter.
Further, CADA also urged the people to elect a worthy and deserving candidate who will stand against the menace of illicit substances.
