Saplings planted, heritage walk conducted

Under the aegis of Directorate of University and Higher Education and Department of Forest, Manipur College organised a mass tree plantation programme in and around the college campus and at Langjing Hill on Wednesday in connection with the observance of Patriots' Day and Independence Day while Loktak Battalion of IGAR (S)'participated in heritage walk in coordination with Directorate of University and Higher Education and carried out tree plantation drive in Lamdan village in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
The heritage walk conducted to commemorate 78th anniversary of Battle of Imphal and Kohima also had a lecture on opportunity to join Indian armed forces for the NGC cadets by the team of Loktak Battalion.
A total 75 NCC cadets attended the lecture.
Meanwhile, Keithelmanbi Battalion of IGAR (South) organised a mass tree plantation drive wherein a total of 7,500 saplings were planted at various locations in Thoubal district on Wednesday.
The event was attended by Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subhash Singh, SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam, other civil officers and local youth of Thoubal district.
A total of 350 saplings were planted inside the Company Operating Base.
The saplings were also planted at various locations of Thoubal district by members of local club, representatives of Nehru Yuva Kendra, meira paibis, college students, ex-servicemen and farmers.
