Imphal, October 11 2021:
Taking into consideration the recent poll violence in the state, Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to the people to maintain peace and calm and prevent a repeat of such incidents in future.
In a video message released Monday evening, CM Biren strongly condemned the incidents of poll violence including use of firearms in some assembly constituencies over the past few days.
He then warned that the government will punish those involved in the incidents as per the law of the land, regardless of who they are or close to.
"We will continue to exist as one entity even after the election.
The present MLAs should campaign for votes while taking into mind what they have done, are doing and will be doing for the people in the future.
New aspiring candidates should also campaign while taking account what the predecessor have done and been doing till date.
They should campaign based on issues with high merit instead of indulging in money and muscle power.
Law enforcement agencies are present to look into campaigns done under guise of threat.
This will not be about a political party or individual," he stated.
Biren continued: "In a democracy, it is wrong to ban the entry of a candidate while allowing another candidate to move freely.
People will cast their votes in secrecy and as such, they can vote for whoever they want.
However, restricting the movement of a candidate is against democracy.
Such sectarian and groupism mindsets are highly embarrassing for the state especially in the 21st century.
This should not cast a shadow over the polls.
Politicians should do their work and keep a sincere mindset of serving the people so as to help them earn a place in the hearts of the people" .
