Imphal, October 11 2021:
Making it clear that candidates should not enroll outsiders in the voters' list, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (JCILPS) cautioned that the defaulters will have to bear the consequences.
In a release, JCILPS co-convenor Luwang-cha Chingkhei cited instances of overlooking implementation of ILP system and enrolling outsiders in the voters' list in some constituencies by candidates to have more votes.
Those who include outsiders in the electoral list as a part of the activities for the upcoming assembly election are the ones who do not want to save the indigenes for their own self-interest, he said.
Recalling the statement made by BJP president A Sharda during opening of Thangmeiband BJP Mandal office about re-inclusion of voters excluded from socio economic caste census by the previous government, Chingkhei said that government as well as the people should closely look into the matter.
At one point of time, a former MLA of Jiri who was also an ex-minister enrolled large number of outsiders in the voters' list and allowed them to settle.
Subsequently, an outsider has been now elected as the representative of Jiribam AC, he said, while urging the people to support JCILPS in monitoring Thangmeiband, Uripok, Wangkhei and Sagolband constituencies, where there are many outsiders, with the nearing of election.
Chingkhei lauded the activities of Manipur police and army for their continuous efforts in identifying and arresting Myanmarese nationals with fake Aadhaar cards trying to settle in Churachandpur district.
Observing that outsiders are left unmonitored in hill areas of the state, Chingkhei maintained that people in the hill areas even considered themselves to be dependent on the outsiders.
This will never lead to a good way, he cautioned.
Some BLOs of the constituencies with large number of outsiders have the habit of enrolling outsiders in electoral roll for their selfish interest.
Such act is also supported by candidates of the constituency, he denounced, while urging local clubs, meira paibi groups and organisations to restrict such activities.
