Awareness rallies mark observance of Bicycle Day

Various organisations observed World Bicycle Day in different parts of the state by organising bicycle rallies and other activities on Friday.
Nehru Yuva Kendra San-gathan (NYKS), Manipur also observed the day under the theme 'Cycling for Good Health: Burn Fat, Stay Slim' at Andro Santhei Natural Park.
A bicycle rally was also flagged off from the Park and it culminated at Andro Western Baruni Road Youth Club (AWBRYC) ground after passing through Andro Keithel, Andro Loishang, An dro Kangjeibung and Panam Ningthou Garden.
Among others who spoke on the occasion, NYK Bishnupur deputy director S Dhanachandra highlighted the positive impact of using bicycle and the history of World Bicycle Day.
He also urged all to use bicycle for healthy life.
The rally was organised as a part of the nationwide observance which was flagged off Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi on Friday morning.
Thakuralong with Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Kiren Rijiju as well as 750 young cyclists pedalled 7.5 km distance.
Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAMBA) in association with Cycling Mayor, Imphal City and Doctors on Pedals, IMA Manipur State Branch also observed World Bicycle Day 2022 on Friday, by organising a CYCLOTHON on the theme "Cycling - a simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation".
The cyclothon was flagged off by MLA Th Radheshyam Singh from Kangla Western Gate and flagged-in at Tera Ideal Club where a formal function was held with MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh as chief guest, Th Radheshyam Singh as president and actress Soma Laishram as guest of honour.
TIC president RK Manisana, Bicycle Mayor of Imphal City Dr Sanjib Nepram and MAAMBA president Dr Ng Arunkumar Singh also attended as presidium members.
Dignitaries deliberated about the benefits of cycling in promoting a healthier life-style, better environment and stressed on the need to promote cycling as a sustainable means of transport in the state.
The cyclothon participated by about 150 cyclists passed through the Raj Bhavan traffic point and covered Keishampat, Malom, Kwakeithel Bazar and Sayang Pukhri road enroute to Tera Ideal Club.
It was supported by Swachhta Action Plan of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Tera Ideal Club (TIC).
As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Imphal also organised the observance along with a bicycle rally flagged off by Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan from Top Awang Leikai Ima Imoinu community hall.
Briefly addressing the gathering, MLA Noorul said that bicycle has been one of the most convenient means of transport for over 200 years and it is reassuring to see people from different walks of life and status gathering to observe the day.
As the human society advances, it is also affecting the natural ecosystem, which is why there has been global narrative about climate change, he pointed out, adding that riding bicycle is not only a healthy and affordable means of transport but it also contributes in the fight against climate change.
Nehru Memorial Club (NMC) president L Ibotombi presided over the flag-off ceremony while Imphal East up-adhyaksha Ksh Tama and Top Dusara GP pradhan M Surbala were present as guests of honour.
The cycle rally culminated at the starting point after passing through different parts of Imphal city.
Kumbi Ideal Youth Development Organisation (KIY-DO) Kumbi and Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Bishnupur also jointly organised a cycle rally to mark the observance.
Kumbi PS OC Hussain Ahmed flagged off the rally from Kumbi Awang High School.
