Imphal, June 03 2022:
Oil tankers as well as LPG tankers engaged in transporting fuel and LPG to Malom Depot and Sekmai Bottling Plant from outside the State and from the depot/plant to different ROs and distributors have been on cease work strike since last Friday.
Some oil tankers transporting fuel from Malom to Mantripukhri were stopped at Kwakeithel for collection of toll tax last Friday but the fuel transporters contended that they should be exempted from toll tax.
This incident sparked a disagreement between toll tax collectors and fuel transporters.
Since then, oil tankers and LPG bullet tankers have been on cease work strike.
As the matter reached the Government, a meeting was held yesterday among toll tax collectors, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Imphal Municipal Corporation, All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers ssociation, All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association and All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association.
The meeting agreed on exempting oil tankers and LPG transporters from toll tax.
According to All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers Association president Laishram Somen, the meeting agreed to exempt all oil tankers and LPG transporters from toll tax all over the State but the official notice issued today said that oil tankers and LPG transporters would be exempted from toll tax only within the area of Imphal Municipal Corporation.
Saying that oil tankers and LPG transporters move all over the State ferrying fuel, Somen appealed to authorities concerned to make exemption for oil tankers and LPG transporters from toll tax applicable all over the State.
He said that oil tankers and LPG transporters would continue their cease work strike until an official notice is issued whereby oil tankers and LPG transporters are exempted from toll tax all over the State.
