Imphal, June 03 2022:
Co-ordinating Body, Khurai has advised Mark T Haokip and his cohorts to stop bringing out fake history intended at creating tension among indigenous communities of Manipur.
In a statement, the apex body of clubs and organisations of Khurai area said that Mark Haokip and his followers must also cease spreading lies about sacred religious places which are inseparable to the history particularly of the Meitei community.
Different communities have been settling in Manipur with peace and harmony but attempts are being made to incite discord among indigenous communities by propagating uncorroborated history for the last many years and one such attempt was restriction imposed on entry to sacred places of the Meitei community and claiming ownership of such areas.
Apart from this, fake history is being created and spread among public and Mark Haokip is one leader who is working overnight to tweak history, the statement said.
Co-ordinating Body pointed out that settlement of Kukis in Manipur began from the time of Maharaj Nara Singh in the year 1840 .
While asserting that the Manipur State Hill People (Administration) Regulation, 1947 clearly identifies villages in the hills of Manipur as well as population and communities settling in the villages, the Body said that people residing in villages formed after this regulation could be foreigners.
It is well known that the British brought many Kukis to Manipur and Utilised them in road development as labourers and porters.
It urged Mark Haokip and his cohorts to stop their illegal activities under the garb of protecting human rights and stop their attempt to break apart Manipur by forming armed group.
Mention may be made that Mark Thangmang Haokip, actually arrested from New Delhi for allegedly inciting communal enmity through social media platforms, was re-arrest-ed on the charge of being the president of an insurgent group, "Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland" (GPDRK), Inspector general of police (Zone-1) Themthing Ngasangva recently told reporters that Mark Haokip was granted bail by the CJM (Imphal West) but taken into police custody to probe his role as the GPDRK president.
The outfit was formed in-2019 and is "very active in spreading propaganda in the garb of human rights, and we are trying to unearth more details", the police officer had stated.
A resident of Churachandpur district, Haokip was arrested by Manipur Police from his temporary residence at Kishangarh in New Delhi on May 24 and was brought to Imphal on May 27 .
