Two nabbed with 8.9 kg opium, 1160 kg ganja

Imphal, June 03 2022:
A combined team of Thoubal district police commando led by additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba and 16 Assam Rifles apprehended a man with 8.9 kg of Opium while conducting frisking in Salam Patong area of the district on Friday.
The arrested man has been identified as Satminthang Kipgen alias Minthang (32), son of Lalsat Kipgen of Ningel Mollen village in Kangpokpi district.
According to police, on receipt of specific information, the combined team deployed at Salam Patong from 5 am stopped a Micra car (MN 01-G 7056) for checking.
During intense search of the vehicle driven by one Satminthang Kipgen, 8.9 kg of Opium and Rs 2,81,900 cash were recovered.
The accused has been handed over to Nongpok Sek mai Police station for further inquiry.
On the other hand, our Senapati correspondent in formed that Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles/IGAR (E) seized 1160 kg of cannabis worth Rs 1.70 crore on Thursday.
Troops of Maram Battalion manning a mobile check post near Tadubi Petrol Pump along the NH-2 reportedly stopped a truck (UK 06 CB 5915) and spotted the driver later identified as Sallaudin Mohammad acting suspiciously.
On further checking, the truck was found loaded with illegal cannabis (ganja).
The team of NCB, Imphal was informed and with proper liaison and coordination between the Assam Rifles and NCB, it was confirmed that the seized cannabis weighted 1160 kg, which is stated to be worth Rs 1.70 crore.
The recovered items and the accused along with the truck have been handed over to NCB Imphal for further investigation.
