Imphal, June 03 2022:
Thougal Jagoi, a traditional Manipuri folk dance was awarded 'best performance' title at the International Folk Aero Dance (IFAD) 2.0 festival held in Malaysia.
The dance was performed by the students of Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati.
"We would like to congratulate Assam Don Bosco University for beating the best performance place at IFAD 2.0", the organisers wrote releasing an e-certificate.
"Your contribution took a significant part in our event" they mentioned in an email to Swital Singha, the brain behind the dance performance.
He is presently working as an Asst Professor at the Department of Mass Communication, Assam Don Bosco University.
Singha was a student at the University only a couple of years ago.
Explaining the cultural importance of the dance, he said that Thougal Jagoi is a traditional Manipuri folk dance performed by both men and women during Lai Haraoba.
The dance is performed as an offering to the deities for the sake of peace and prosperity of the land.
"As Don Bosco completes 100 years of service in North East India, we are humbled to receive this socially significant recog- nition", expressed Dr Fr Stephen Mavely, the Vice Chancellor.
"North East is a land of vibrant people and many such untapped cultural resources.
Don Bosco has been investing in the people of North East India since the inception of their journey in 1922," he said.
This year, Assam Don Bosco University has been accredited 'A" grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
It is noteworthy that Don Bosco University happens to be the only Private University in Assam to be granted Grade A by NAAC.
NAAC conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the 'Quality Status' of the institution.
