Imphal, June 03 2022:
The recently concluded Shirui Festival 2022 has been successful in giving a boost to the tourism revenue of the state with the festival generating Return on Investment (ROI) of 31 per cent despite the reduced number of footfalls from earlier editions of the festival.
As per report prepared by a private media firm under the aegis of state's Tourism Department, the four day long festival generated 'floating' revenue of Rs 14.36 crore with a footfall of 2.19 lakh people.
The government made an investment of Rs 4.5 crore in organising the festival apart from expenditure in media promotion and awareness.
The local population also managed to collect three times return of their investment thereby giving a boost to their income.
The report was based on data collected from entry and exit points as well as various other sources.
Though the first day had less than 20,000 footfalls, the last day recorded a footfall of more than 1 lakh.
Average expenditure of visitors was Rs 650 per person during the festival.
Mountain biking at Phangrei, Shirock concert and folk and cultural dances of different indigenous communities were the main public attractions apart from the world famous Shirui Lily, the report said.
It, however, suggested retrospection from the government on the reason for decreased footfall from previous editions of the festival so as to take up necessary measures to address the issue.
