RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand inaugurated the Manipur Legislative Assembly Guest House at Majorkhul here on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Khemchand recounted that he underwent a 3-day training at the Parliament when he was the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, wherein he came across a museum at the institution highlighting the origin of the Indian civilisation till its independence and political history.
Since then, a museum archive was set up at the Old Assembly, highlighting the political history of the state.
However, MPs from other states, during their visit to the state, have emphasised the need of an Assembly Guest House.
Thus, the staffers of the Assembly were consulted and the work was commenced, he further recalled and urged for concerted efforts in making the Guest House the best one in the country.
Presiding over the inaugural function, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata appreciated the long-term vision of his predecessor with regard to the Guest House and his contributions and impartial stance during his (Khemchand) tenure.
Satyabrata then stressed the need for proper management of the Guest House including developing the entrance to the premises.
In his speech, Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary K Meghajit said that the Guest House was initiated by then speaker Y Khemchand in 2017.As of now, there are a total of 12 VIP suites in the Guest House.
He also urged for maintaining cleanliness and equipping the guest house with necessary facilities, considering most state legislatures have their respective Assembly Guest House.
The inauguration was also attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly joint secretary G Tapankumar Sharma as guest of honour.
