Imphal, June 03 2022:
All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers' Association (AMPPDA) has announced that they will continue their agitation of not transporting petroleum products unless the order for payment of toll tax by oil and LPG tankers to government is withdrawn.
The decision to cease transportation of petroleum products was taken as the talks between the government representatives and the Association could not bring any solution on the issue.
The Association began the agitation on May 30.Speaking to media persons with regard to the meeting of the Association held with MAHUD minister Y Khemchand at the latter's residence on Thursday, an AMPPDA member informed that an agreement was initially arrived at during the Thursday's meeting and the Association was ready to resume its service from Friday.
However, contrary to the agreement reached, the government statement mentions that toll tax will not be paid in areas under Imphal Municipal Corporation only.
As per Association's understanding, the consensus arrived at the meeting was that the petroleum products drivers will not have to pay toll tax at any toll gate in the state.
Considering this, the Association has decided to continue with the agitation, the official informed.
The official further conveyed that as part of the agitation no tankers were allowed to offload petroleum products at Malom Oil Depot on Friday and no transportation of products to various parts of the state was carried out.
If the government does not clear the misunderstanding between the two sides at the earliest then the Association would have no choice but to continue its agitation, the AMPPDA member cautioned.
