'The Mileage' launched

The Mileage, a monthly publication from Guwahati in the format of a tabloid was launched on June 7 at Guwahati Press Club by Sushanta Talukdar, veteran journalist of North East and also Senior Assistant Editor of 'The Hindu'.
According to a statement issued by Bijoy Ghimire, Editor of the publication, the other dignitary who was also present on the occasion was Aniruddha Laskar, a former NE bureau head working with the 'Samay' News Channel and now an academician.
Applauding the initiative for publishing a monthly magazine, Sushanta Talukdar emphasized the adequate coverage which has to be given to the downtrodden lot of the society who get adversely affected due to environmental degradation.
He also suggested to have an online version of the publication to widen the readership base beyond Assam or the Northeast and stressed on the necessity to write about the South East Asian nations in the news publications from Assam as he expressed his optimism of India's Look East Policy.
"It is a good initiative and indeed a better platform whereby the young minds can give vent to their ideas and opinions", said Aniruddha Laskar, narrating the audience how he had scripted a success story of a website operating from Tripura, and stressed the fact that good works will always be appreciated and will never die.
The tabloid titled as The Mileage will basically cater to the needs of the young brigade of the North East India.
Most of the content will be devoted to the student issues pertaining to their education and career, environment and lifestyle.
And the rest of the content would be the news on science and technology, current affairs and entertainment.
The primary objective of this publication is to make the new generation more informed and thereby guide and mould them towards the path of positivity and productivity.
